Vice President, Electric System Engineering and Technical Services,
Thomas Pierpoint came to Austin Energy in September 2019 to serve as Vice President of Electric System Engineering and Technical Services. In this role, he is responsible for leading Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Planning, T&D Engineering, System Operations & Advanced Technology, Emergency Management, and Electric Service Delivery Shared Services of Austin Energy to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of electric service and associated information to our customers.
Pierpoint is experienced in nearly all aspects of a utility including T&D engineering, system planning, control centers, emergency management, field operations, customer care, corporate technology, operational technologies, GIS, outage management, mobile dispatch, regulatory, human resources, finance, and supply chain. He has more than 30 years of experience in the utility industry, including work at Pepco (which serves the nation’s capital), Delmarva Power & Light, Atlantic City Electric, Baltimore Gas & Electric, Philadelphia Electric, Commonwealth Edison, and Exelon.
Before coming to Austin Energy, Pierpoint was a strategic consultant in the energy and utility industry providing support to a number of utility and energy companies as well as the Congressional Budget Office, the Department of Energy, and FERC.
Most recently, Pierpoint earned an advanced certificate for executives in management, innovation and technology from the MIT Sloan School of Management. Pierpoint also holds a Master of Business Administration and a master’s in project management, both from Keller Graduate School of Management, in addition to a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering technology from Old Dominion University.
